Rehearsals: every Wednesday 7-10pm, in July and August (we may take time off during Fringe), may increase in September leading up to September 18, 2026.
ALL REHEARSALS ARE MANDATORY. If cast in our production, we will expect you make our rehearsals a priority. The profit-share payment for participating in this production will be proportionately pro-rated for any missed scheduled rehearsals. If it is deemed that the absences are negatively impacting the progress of our show, we will have to recast your part(s). We are trying to stress that there is not a lot of flexibility for absences here. We understand that rehearsals are over the summer, and many people tend to go on holidays, but there are not a lot of music rehearsals for this project, so our expectation is that everyone has a nearly 100% availability to all of our scheduled rehearsals.
The production is presented in semi-staged concert and performers will be expected to have the songs and lines memorized. We are seeking strong singers with trained voices and solid vocal stamina.
ROLES
PLEASE NOTE: At the time of this posting, the role of Betty Schaefer has been cast. We are currently seeking submissions for the following 3 Principal, 6 Supporting and 6 Featured Ensemble Roles:
*Norma Desmond (Female late 40s/50s) – Silent movie star who still lives in her isolated dream world of the past. Maturely attractive and stylized in dress and manner. Eccentric and jaded. Alto-lyric belter. We are looking for a commanding, powerful voice with strong dramatic belt, capable of conveying intense, sweeping melodrama, high theatricality, and a commanding presence throughout the nearly sung-through score.
*Joe Gillis (Male 25-35) – A young writer, struggling to make his name in Hollywood. Not Hollywood in manner, but very Hollywood in looks. Tall, strikingly handsome, self assured, yet with a manly rugged demeanor. Must be an excellent singer (trained, bari-tenor) with a natural film-style approach. Should be charming, with an opportunist-like quality.
*Max von Mayerling (Male late 40s/50s) – Ex-film-director-turned-devoted-servant, with European accent. Norma’s biggest fan and also her ex-husband. Excellent actor/singer required. Full, deep, classically trained bass-baritone is a must. We are looking for a performer with a deep, resonant lower register that can transition effortlessly into a light (falsetto) upper register.
*PLEASE NOTE: The three roles above (Norma, Joe and Max) are hugely demanding. The show is fully underscored and there are scenes with underscoring, short monologues and dialogue embedded in music, short sung verses, etc. We require performers to have significant training and experience in musical theatre (or even in opera, as the structure of some of the underscored scenes is very much operatic in nature).
